Electric Golf Buggy Prolonged Buggy Storage
Although the following information does not directly pertain to the design of the storage facility, any prolonged inaction of vehicles during winter conditions should be considered.
Batteries may self-discharge over several weeks, which will result in the batteries freezing. A frozen battery cannot be restored and must be replaced.
No matter what charger is used, it makes good sense to frequently check the condition of the vehicles and the state of charge of the batteries.
During periods of storage, the batteries will need regular attention to keep them maintained and prevent discharge. In winter conditions, the battery must be fully charged to reduce the possibility of freezing. A fully charged battery will not freeze in the most severe of winter climates. Although the chemical reaction is slowed in cold temperatures, the batteries must be stored fully charged and disconnected from any circuit that could discharge the battery pack. Each battery must be cleaned and all deposits neutralised and removed from the battery case to prevent self-discharge. The battery pack should be tested or recharged at 30-day intervals.
To prolong battery life, it is recommended that the storage facility temperature be maintained between 32 to 80° F.
