Electric Golf Buggy Battery Watering System
Always wear the correct protective clothing when handling batteries.
Batteries need water. More importantly, watering the batteries must be done at the right time with the correct amount otherwise the batteries performance with suffer and longevity will suffer.
Distilled water should always be added after charging the batteries. Prior to charging ensure that there is enough water in there to cover the plates. If the battery has been discharged either fully or partially, the water level should also be above the plates. Keeping the water at the correct levels after a full charge will prevent having to worry about the water level at a different state of charge.
Depending upon the climate, charging methods, application and terrain, Trojan recommends that the batteries are checked once per month until you get a feel for how thirsty your batteries are.
IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER:
- Do not let the plates become exposed to the air as this will damage and corrode them.
- Do not fill the water level in the filling well up to the cap, this will most likely cause the battery to overflow with acid and consequently become a hazard as well as cause a corrosive mess and loss of capacity.
- Use only distilled or deionised water.
CAUTION - AVOID ALL CONTACT WITH SKIN FROM ANY SOLUTION.
STEP BY STEP WATERING PROCEDURE
- Open the vent caps and look inside the fill well.
- Check electrolyte levels; the minimum level should be at the top of the plates.
- If necessary, add just enough water to cover the top of the plates at this time.
- Put batteries on a complete charge before adding any additional water. (Refer to charging section).
- Once charging is complete open the vents and look inside the fill wells.
- Add more water until the electrolyte level is 1/8” below the bottom of the fill well.
- If possible, use a Trojan testing gauge to help determine this level.
- Clean, replace and tighten all vent caps.
